  • Hi Josh, I love the site, and I love the Podcast!
It’s a really interesting source for things to think about. I’m currently a student at the German-American John F. Kennedy School in Berlin, Germany, but I’m already seriously thinking about what to do after school and college. As a technology freak and Tablet PC enthusiast, I would like to go beyond posting in forums and start blogging myself. I have a webspace with wordpress installed, but I can’t seem to find a nice, appealing theme. I must say I am tempted to buy a theme from fallout media, but don’t see myself in the financial situation to do so. Besides, I don’t seek to make a great deal of money on the blog, so it’s less if an investment than an expense with insecure future. Now that you mentioned on your most recent episode that you might distribute the tweakcast.com theme, I jumped with excitement. I would absolutely love to slightly modify the theme and use it myself. I am willing to post a big fat link to your company, just let me use the theme! It’s really pretty, and simple enough. So please, please let us download the theme!!!
    best regards

  • Hey Josh! I would be interested in getting a copy of your WP theme.

Great job on the podcast! One suggestion would be to possibly let your listenership know how frequent we can anticipate updates to your show. It may assist in keeping listernership up and growing! My thoughts anyway… take them for what there worth.

Also, you should think about putting some more of your advanced thoughts on freelance into an ebook… free is good, green is better! ;)

Keep up the good work and I look forward to further episodes of TweakCast.

  • Hey Josh,

I already have taken the plunge and quit my day job, problem is, i’m not making enough right now, should I continue with my work and become better or would you say, get back to your old job untill you are earning that amount again.

    Btw i’m from the Netherlands!

  • Ahhhh these tools are great. The WebDev docs were just what I needed – I’m terrible at writing all that “official” stuff.

    Thanks : )

  • Great podcast. I like how you keep it very short but very informative. I would be interested in knowing a little about how you do project management. Maybe tools you use or just your process of keeping track of everything.
    Thanks

  • Hello Josh,

Firstly, hats off to you for this great site! A great idea and resource that will be very helpful for me and many others.

A couple of months ago I quite my web/graphic design job to try out freelancing but mainly to devote some personal time to learning programming which I’ve never had chance to. I took my first job as a graphic designer 7-8 years ago with no web experience but soon found myself pretty good at it and have concentrated most of my time on this side of things since. I have always worked within a team of designer, developers and strategists so I’ve never needed to write a line of code in my life (whether this is normal or not in many agencies I’m not fully sure?) but I have good design skills and fully understand the web and how to design for it but just not the actual coding side of things, which is now what I’m very keen to learn.

Considering I have no website, I’m doing ok, or at least making enough money to pay the bills etc, all purely from word of mouth. However If I’m to succeed, I really need my own site to reach people more effectively and further a field. I for one would be very interested in a release of this FINE blog as I’ve been searching for a nice, simple wordpress template to use while I develop my own site.

Thanks and best wishes with your site!

  • Hey Leigh, can I ask you something.

Since you don’t have a portfolio online, how do you show people what you have done before? By giving links to sites you have developed, or offline work?

  • Great podcast. But the audio level is so low.

  • Hi Klaas,

I got my first pieces of work from a couple of people I had already worked with and then from there each new client was a recommendation from the last. However, each time I have sent pdf samples of my work or links. It would be good to have my own site though to be more professional and to reach people others than those I have previously worked with.

My main goal is a site with built in blog but for now a simpler version will be ok.

    Hope this helps..

  • i think your first podcast was pretty good… but what did you accomplish in the second one? i didn’t learn too much. i don’t think finding a color scheme and identity is all that helpful in the beginning. i’ll be interested to hear what’s next.

  • Hey, i’m really enjoying your site and your podcasts. I’ve started a new site selling WordPress themes, and I was totally inspired to keep furthering my business ventures by your site and episodes. Keep the encouragement coming! :)
