  • I like the original (Media Artist Secrets) better… This was kind of boring. Good clear voice and delivery though… Hopefully will get better w/ time :)

  • Hi Joshua, I found this podcast in a CSS gallery, crazy, but I think I stay tuned :)
I like the it’s length - short and clear, small - but big steps. I enjoy this concept. I’m looking forward the next episode.

  • This is great! Ive already taken the plunge, and I’m already a full time freelance contractor working for myself. Along the way, I learned a lot of things the hard way, and there is still so much to learn. I wish I would have had this at the start, but certainly maybe I can get a few tips on how to stay in biz once Im well established!

  • I’m looking forward to future episodes. What I heard sounds pretty good. Just keep it informative and entertaining because some podcasts get boring really quick. I one day hope to take the same step so I’m subscribed and ready to listen.

  • I was sent to your site as an example of what a client wanted to see in his next design I’m doing for him, but now that i’m here, I’m definately going to keep up with it. This was a great idea, and everything in your first episode I’ve already faced in my personal experience. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to all the episodes as they come.

  • Josh,

Great tweak! You’re right, quitting my day job seems like an endeavor worth taking seriously. Don’t get me wrong, the dream of someday telling my boss where he can “put it” makes me want to take the plunge. But there are other factors to consider like job security in such a huge market, constant work and long hours…not to mention doing something “boring”. I like the fact that my job filters all that out for me. So at the end of the day, when the kids go to bed, I can escape to the “hobby”…and if I’m lucky, it will make me a couple of bucks!

  • Really informative. I’ve been thinkin about going solo … It’s nice to have a little insight. Would you say there is a lot of local competition in your area for work … or have you found location isn’t much of an issue for freelance/solo web work? Reason asking: I was also thinking about making a move to portland.

Also, did you have to factor a significant amount of money for self-promotion/marketing? If so what would you say is the best method; SEO, word-of-mouth, professional reference? As you mentioned, you can’t pay the bills without clients.

  • Found your site when - oddly - my brain was searching for the types of questions you were suggesting to ask myself. I’m a little ways off from taking the plunge, but very interested to hear the rest of the tweakcasts as the first two have been amazing!

  • Excellent information. I own a cleaning company and work full-time in Corporate America… so I definitely relate to the topic of taking the plunge. I hope you keep it up! have you considered expanding the site to capture the stories/experiences of entreprenuers in other industries? Good luck.
